ABOUT THE PBA

The Cohasset Ridge Prescribed Burn Association is a community-led group dedicated to bringing neighbors together to safely reintroduce good fire to the landscape. Through shared effort and local leadership, the PBA helps reduce wildfire risk, restore forest health, and build a more fire-adapted community. MORE
GOOD FIRE

The Cohasset Ridge Prescribed Burn Association (PBA) was formed to bring neighbors together to safely and effectively use prescribed fire as a tool for reducing wildfire risk and restoring forest health. In a region increasingly impacted by high-intensity wildfires, local landowners recognized the need for a proactive, community-driven approach to land stewardship. The PBA is built on a “barn-raising” model—neighbors helping neighbors—where members work side by side to plan and implement burns on each other’s properties.

By sharing knowledge, resources, and labor, the Cohasset Ridge PBA lowers barriers that often prevent individuals from using prescribed fire, such as complexity around permitting, lack of experience, or limited access to equipment and qualified oversight. The association creates opportunities for hands-on learning and real-world experience, helping to grow a skilled and confident local workforce.

Ultimately, the PBA exists to return “good fire” to the landscape in a safe, collaborative way. Through community-led burning, members are not only protecting their own properties, but also strengthening the resilience of the entire Cohasset Ridge community—one burn at a time.
